One day, while washing the dishes, my eyes landed on something that seemed completely insignificant: my kitchen sponge. It was one of those yellow and green ones, the kind you find at any supermarket. But something made me stop and ask: what's the story behind this object I use every single day?
I started researching. And what I found changed my life… and the way I clean my home.
Where our fique grows.
It turns out the synthetic sponge so many of us use without a second thought is made from polyurethane, nylon or other petroleum-based plastics that can take hundreds of years to break down. With use, it can shed tiny plastic particles: the microplastics we keep hearing about.
I wanted something different at my sink. That's how I discovered fique.
Fique is an ancestral fiber, native to South America, that has sustained rural communities in Colombia for generations. It's natural, strong and noble, and deeply rooted in human meaning.
That's how Sponge by Nature was born: a 100% plant-based, plastic-free sponge made from just two natural ingredients. Its texture cleans effectively yet gently, for both your home and your skin. It isn't perfect. It's natural and honest, and it starts in a field in Colombia.

Today, around 70,000 families in Colombia depend on fique, from the farmers who grow it to the he people who transform it.*
Many fique-growing regions, like Cauca and Nariño, are places that lived through years of armed conflict, illicit crops and violence. In communities like these, legal crops such as fique offer something powerful: a way to build a livelihood through honest work on their own land.
And this is where the story becomes personal. Every time you choose a natural fiber over plastic, you help keep traditions like this alive and valued.

That is the quiet power of a fiber grown with dignity.
The greatest revolutions begin with small gestures. In a world full of disposable products, choosing a fique sponge is an act of awareness, consistency and love for the earth.
Sometimes we believe that changing the world requires doing big things. But real transformation starts at home: at the kitchen sink, in the shower.
"We believe the small choices we make every day reveal who we are and shape the legacy we leave behind."
Everything is connected.
What we bring into our homes, what touches our skin, and what we choose to use every day has an impact that reaches far beyond ourselves.
For decades, we lived with products we never questioned. They were part of the routine: invisible objects we accepted out of habit. But habits can change when we understand that every choice has consequences.
At Sponge by Nature, we believe change doesn't begin with big speeches or impossible promises. It begins with the decisions we make every day.
We're not responsible for changing the whole world. But we are responsible for the choices we make when no one is watching. For the products we bring home. For the materials we put against our skin. For the habits we repeat again and again.
Because every action leaves a mark.
A sponge may seem insignificant. Yet it's in these small, everyday acts that we define who we choose to be.
That's why Sponge by Nature is made from just two natural ingredients. Not simply as an alternative to a conventional sponge, but as an invitation to live more consciously.
We believe hope isn't passive. Hope is built. It's practiced. It becomes real through our daily actions.
And when millions of small, conscious choices come together, they stop being small.
The legacy we leave the planet isn't built in a single moment. It's built every day, with every choice.
Because the future doesn't depend only on what we say we value.
It depends on what we choose to do.
